The Forum in Norwich is the landmark Millennium project for the East of England. The building and its tenants are managed by The Forum Trust, an independent and self-financing charitable trust which welcomes 2 million visitors to the building every year. In addition to hosting events and exhibitions, The Forum houses the Norfolk & Norwich Millennium Library Heritagand Tourist Information Centre and is a popular meeting point.
The Challenge
To help manage their events and exhibitions, The Forum Trust had invested in an events management database. To save time and effort, the Trust wanted to use a single IT system to manage events, update information on the on-line events calendar and power an advertising screen. However, the existing database was not designed to do this.
The Solution
We talked to staff from The Forum Trust to find out exactly what information they wanted to take from their database to use on the website and on the advertising screen. We got in touch with their existing software provider then custom wrote software to extract the desired data with minimum fuss and maximum accuracy.
To make the system extra secure and guaranteed to have no downtime, we created a separate secure database to hold this content for the website and advertising screen. The new software regularly checks the events management system for updates, feeding both the website and screen with the latest information.
The End Result
The new system has proved a great success, resulting in a cost effective, secure solution that saves time and resources.
